Attraction of students to classes with the help of augmented reality

Any professor knows that the more motivated and involved students are always better at understanding subjects and learning more quickly. Their attention and energy are focused on the learning process, since the educator keeps them involved and interested. Thus, augmented reality in the education process provides enormous benefits to all students.

The prospect of attracting smartphones and using augmented reality for the educational process is amazing, but so far only a few teachers are really using it. AR can  present students with different approach to additional digital information about any subject, and complex information is easier to understand.

Currently, we can find excellent examples of AR use in education worldwide. The ability to connect to digital content is gradually becoming a reality and opens up more opportunities for educators and students.

AR can attract the attention of students, as well as encourage them to learn.Including the additional information, such as a short biography of a person, some facts about different things, geolocation of historical events or a visual model of a mathematical concept, will give the student a broader understanding of this topic.

The AR technology has the ability to visualize as a 3D model everything that can hardly be imagined in the classroom, on the computer, or in the minds of students. Reverse abstract and complex content as visual models helps students gain a deeper understanding of the topic of the lesson.

This works especially well with students, with increased visual perception, and also helps the others to obtain alternative ways of integrating theoretical material into a real concept.

The Leiria Polytechnic Institute integrates the AR technology into an educational process to support oral and textual explanations of mathematics for students. Those who worked with AR-applications found this process simple, intuitive and interesting.

The inclusion of AR into the lessons can help teachers directly involve students in the learning process by interacting with the 3D model. Participation in such things helps to motivate students, attract their attention to all classes with AR and helps them understand the subject deeper.

Interaction with AR can be part of the lesson, support for a core topic that provides additional information for students, or the main content of the lesson.

Canadian technical company CASE turned the wall of a school gym into a huge ball game, adding a layer of augmented reality to it. Students threw rubber balls on the wall to destroy the model of floating figures, visualized on it by the projector.

On the other hand, museums in general can not show the entire collection to visitors because of the limited space, lack of resources or simply the high cost of objects. Using AR's capabilities provides great opportunities for museums to present more than would be possible under normal conditions.

AR provides visitors with the opportunity to use their mobile devices as a pocket tool through which their surroundings receive endless additional levels of information.

Technical students need practical experience in order to obtain service and assembly skills suitable for their profession. Unfortunately, such skills often can not be practiced in classroom setting.

In addition, the use of AR functions can help them through virtual learning and practice with fully digital content or additional 3D models connected to real fragments. AR-animation and graphic content can also give additional knowledge about new methods and concepts of innovation. Meanwhile, the AR technology can create different situations and simulations that are suitable for the training process, where students can gain some experience. So, the integration of augmented reality into the educational process provides great benefits for all students.
